The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso
Let us take you back to 1962, a year that marked the birth of one of Ferrari’s most iconic and beloved models: the 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta Scaglietti. Among the many great cars in Ferrari’s history, the Lusso stands out for its perfect blend of elegant styling, strong performance, and luxurious features. A model produced from 1962 to 1964, it was designed to offer a more refined, grand-touring version of Ferrari’s 250 series. It sat between the race-bred 250 GT Berlinetta and the more luxury-focused 250 GT Cabriolet, embodying a balance of sophistication and driving thrills.
At the heart of the Lusso is Ferrari’s legendary 3.0-liter Colombo V12 engine, producing 240 horsepower. The engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox, offering a driving experience that is both smooth and spirited. Though not as race-oriented as its legendary sibling, the 250 GTO, the Lusso was still a capable and thrilling performer, reaching top speeds of 150 mph (240 km/h) and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds.
Designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, the Lusso’s body is a masterpiece of sleek, flowing lines and graceful curves. Its slightly elongated nose, smooth contours, and refined rear end make it one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever produced. The car’s aesthetic is a perfect balance between sporty aggression and elegant sophistication, making it a true work of automotive art.
Inside, the Lusso is just as luxurious. It is outfitted with fine leather seats, a wooden steering wheel, and meticulously crafted details that reflect Ferrari’s commitment to both style and comfort. The Lusso was not just a high-performance vehicle, but also a car designed for long-distance touring, with comfort and elegance in mind. It was the perfect choice for Ferrari customers seeking a daily driver that could deliver exhilarating performance on the road while also offering the luxury and refinement expected of a grand touring car.
The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso production was limited to just 351 units, making it a rare gem in the automotive world. Its rarity, stunning design, and outstanding performance have helped the Lusso retain its high value among collectors to this day.
Over the years, it has appeared in prestigious classic car auctions, often fetching prices between €2-3 million, or even higher, depending on its condition and history.
As one of the last "pure" Ferraris before the company transitioned into mass-market luxury sports cars, the 250 GT Lusso occupies a special place in Ferrari’s history. It represents a bridge between the race-bred machines of the 1950s and the more accessible luxury sports cars that would come to define Ferrari in the following decades. Its combination of Ferrari’s racing heritage, Pininfarina’s timeless design, and its focus on grand touring makes it a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
About our Lusso:
Our 250 GT Lusso with chassis #4267GT has an especially rich provenance, starting its life as a press car and being number 5 of the total 351 built. After being used as a press car, the car was offered to customers in 1963 and was given a Factory Certificate of Origin. The first owner was Dr. Enrico Wax who took ownership of it in Genova, Italy, with the first license plate "GE 192037". After that, it's been owned by several prominent figures in the world of Ferrari collectors.
This Lusso remains a highly sought-after example due to its originality, pristine condition, and authenticity. The careful preservation of its original components has helped it maintain its place among the most desirable Ferraris in existence.
Although the photos give a good impression, we dare say that this 250 GT Lusso looks even more beautiful in person.
